The SSC CGL 2026 syllabus is divided into two primary stages: Tier 1 (qualifying) and Tier 2 (final selection). The exam evaluates candidates on quantitative skills, logical reasoning, English proficiency, and general awareness.

Tier 1 Syllabus (Qualifying)

Tier 1 consists of 100 questions (200 marks) to be completed in 60 minutes.

  • Quantitative Aptitude: Number System, Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, Profit & Loss, Interest, Time & Work, Algebra (identities), Geometry (triangles, circles), Trigonometry, and Data Interpretation (bar graphs, pie charts).
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Venn Diagrams, Non-verbal reasoning (pattern folding, embedded figures), and Series (number/alphabet).
  • English Comprehension: Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Antonyms, One Word Substitution, Idioms & Phrases, Cloze Test, and Reading Comprehension.
  • General Awareness: History, Geography, Indian Polity (Constitution), Economics, General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology up to Class 10), and Current Affairs.

Tier 2 Syllabus (Scoring)

Tier 2 is more advanced and determines the final merit list. It consists of multiple papers based on the post applied for.

Paper 1 (Compulsory for All Posts)

  • Mathematical Abilities: Advanced Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, and the addition of Statistics & Probability (mean, median, mode, simple probability).
  • Reasoning & General Intelligence: Advanced logical and analytical reasoning, including critical thinking and emotional intelligence.
  • English Language & Comprehension: Advanced grammar, sentence structure, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, and complex comprehension passages.
  • General Awareness: Deeper coverage of the same topics as Tier 1.
  • Computer Knowledge Test (Qualifying): Computer basics (CPU, memory), software (MS Office), Internet/Emails, and Networking/Cyber Security basics.
  • Data Entry Speed Test (Qualifying): Typing test requiring 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

Specialised Papers (Post-Specific)

  • Paper 2 (Statistics): Only for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) posts. Includes Collection/Classification of Data, Measures of Central Tendency/Dispersion, Skewness, Correlation/Regression, and Sampling Theory.
  • Paper 3 (Finance & Economics): Only for Assistant Audit/Accounts Officer posts. Includes Finance & Accounts principles and Micro/Macro Economics.
